I guess I'll keep it in case I have to throw it at someone but I sure can't access any of the data on it. The only other option is to format the hard drive and use the FAT32 format for the best compatibility. Such problems can be tricky to fix. It has lot of important data. i was blinking what to do when my ext hdd was not recognised. But my laptop is not detecting the drive. this worked.
