I am also running the same two Dell Monitors which are running through mini-DVI ports run into the same video card. I'm talking about the type of Mini-DV camera that you would commonly take on a vacation.

Actually it's a solution that works (one post on the Holy Cow) but makes you loose the will to live. This is what it does when I load the clip.
When the editor tries to play the H.264 footage on the Digital Cinema Desktop preview, it is stutters or it is just a still frame with audio. I could supply an HDV clip but I don't think it will help. In the View playback options the Digital Cinema option (or however it phrases it) is greyed out even though A/V playback is set correctly to "all frames". Follow up with some more info, in particular the EXACT error message you are seeing, and I am sure we can come up with a simpler resolution than a complete re-install.
Do you have an inexpensive Mini-DV camera with firewire and and S-Video ports? Though this is a FCP 7 manual I am confident the information is the same.
